Oil painting on cotton canvas 100x70cm.

The series titled "Recurrence" is inspired by two works by Raden Saleh, a Southeast Asian artist, and Alexei Denisov Kuzmich, a Russian artist. Both the 19th and 20th centuries depicted environmental disasters that, sadly, have become very common today. In my reproductions of Raden Saleh's "Flood on Java" (1863) and Alexei Denisov Kuzmich's "Wildfire" (1904), I made a deliberate choice to alter the colours, swapping the water and fire elements. This decision was influenced by the events of 2022, which saw devastating floods in Pakistan, widespread wildfires in the US and Russia, and escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
