Thermic backpacks and helmets prints, video clip 3'5''

"Buntermann" is a collaborative project with 10-year-old Pablo, aimed at designing equipment and creating a video clip for a hypothetical dream delivery company. The project expanded into a series of performances involving artists and drivers from real delivery companies in Berlin. The website www.bunterman.com was closed due to a surge in requests.

In 2019, while working for Foodora, I discovered a surplus of old equipment sets, including backpacks and helmets, awaiting trash removal. After requesting these for a recycling project, I had to pick up hundreds of pieces and store them in my studio. The backpacks were turned inside out and helmets repainted. Pablo created a logo and brand name for the dream delivery company. Real delivery workers and artists, including myself, featured in a promotional video clip. (link to the video)

During a shift, my bike was stolen, and my phone broke, leaving me in significant trouble for a while. Throughout the years of that job, I struggled to work on my projects, cycling in all weather conditions, enduring harsh winters while being underpaid.

 

Inspired by my challenging experiences at Foodora, where the company's lack of support left me in a difficult situation, "Buntermann" addresses the growing issue of underemployment. The project underscores the struggles of individuals, of college graduates today working in low-wage jobs that don't utilize their skills, hindering career development and income growth. "Buntermann" encourages people to dream again as a crucial step toward realizing those dreams. By emphasizing the importance of dreams in fostering evolution, achieving goals, and driving positive change, the project aims to spark imagination and creativity in individuals facing underemployment challenges.
