Mezzanine on Fire is an installation work for a communal space created for the new studio house in Kienitzer Straße in Berlin using the wasted wood from a construction site. It was presented as part of a quadraphonic sound piece and other related events.
The word mezzanine, from the Latin medius (“middle”), refers to an architectural invention, a space that is neither the ground floor nor the first floor, but something in between. Traditionally, mezzanines were used to extend the function of a room, often serving as storage areas or living quarters for servants.
The fire evokes a gathering place, where people come together to share stories, food, and warmth.
Mezzanine on Fire is a metaphorical construction, built from discarded materials found on a construction site. It extends the existing communal space of the studio, transforming it into a shared environment for future gatherings and events.
